Great Text

This is a well written text that I feel should be required for all DPT students and entry-level muscuoskeletal clinicians to read. With emerging literature stating that derangements may be as common in the extremities as they are in the spine, it will allow our patients to get classified and treated quicker. The method just makes sense! Robin McKenzie was definately ahead of his time.

A definite must have

I did my MSc. in Infectious Diseases using the 4th edition of this book and I've now started my PhD in Pathogen Genomics (specifically related to antibiotic resistance) with this 6th edition as my aid. This book is PERFECT. It is high yield, gives you everything you need to know in a casual writing style, like a friend explaining instead of a hard, dry text book. I love the little cartoons, it makes the subject matter more palatable and interesting, and the mnemonics make memorizing easier. It is structured well and covers everything. Excellent Board Prep book!

I've had the advantage of being introduced to this wonderful book. Learning microbiology can be overwhelming coming from class notes and so this book came as a blessing 3 years ago and now as I prepare for national boards. There are simple mnemonics that help you not only understand, but quickly memorize information. This way, your studies are more efficient when a gross amount of information needs to be memorized. Many times I found myself referring to this wonderful book more than my notes. If you are a visual learner you will love the cartoons that quickly explain an organism/infection. You may forget certain information during your intense education, but you will certainly remember those visuals for exams and years down the road. Trust me, its MADE RIDICULOUSLY SIMPLE!!!

Glad I found this book when I did

This text lays out the information you need to know about microbes in a very easy to read manner. I find myself enjoying reading and learning from the images designed to help recall. It has been helpful to use in addition to assigned lectures, and find myself first reading the appropriate material in this text prior to studying the lecture slides. It makes my studies 100% easier and I feel like I am retaining the information better as a result. I'm glad I found this text prior to boards. I'm sure it will be a text I will continue to cite in the future.

I bought a specific foot and ankle anatomy book and it is very basic. I am a foot and ankle surgeon and I need more details. The book doesn't has anything unusual. It is just like the other regular anatomy books.

Great Book

This is really a great book. I have been playing violin for 40 years, orchestras, bluegrass bands, Mark O'Connor's fiddle camp etc. and this book taught me more about Grappelli's style than have learned any where. The book starts off with the basics of the Grappelli bowings, shows typical licks, then puts the licks into the context of transcribed swing jazz standards that Grappelli would play which you can play along with on the included CD. I have other books that I have bought through the years on Grappelli's style and this is the best. This is not a get rich quick scheme, you will have to put in the time, practice diligently, memorize the licks, play the music and you will absorb this gypsy jazz style. If you want to learn how to play like Steph, buy this book, you won't be sorry.

Good Stuff!

Once again, Tim Kliphuis (say it Klip-house) delivers the goods. Lots of Grappelli licks and runs, presented in a clear, easy-to-understand way. Not for the beginner, better for intermediate to advanced players, as you will need to be able to shift to 3rd and 5th positions to execute some of the runs. The only drawbacks to the book are that his explanations on how to use the licks don't really give you the understanding of how Grappelli would use them, but I expect that would take up another book, and also the licks span the early years (which I really want to get that sound) to the last years, when he had a more modern sound. Still if you want to learn, this is a great book.

A slightly pear-shaped introduction to VC++.Net

The first thing I noticed about this text is the absence of the familiar colour coding used throughout the other volumes. Could this be a sign of publisher wariness, or simply cost cutting?
The book has much in common (including examples) with the other Deitel and Deitel .Net (C#, VB) volumes. Chapter development and layout is very similar. The standard of the material is mostly very good as one would expect, but topic coverage leaves something to be desired.
Firstly, it's a personal opinion, but I am not convinced that the several hundred pages devoted to web services is what students of C++ (and new professionals) need or want. Consequently, I ask myself whether this space should be shunted into a separate book. Secondly, there is a very small amount of space devoted to data structures, roughly 53 pages. Much smaller than needs be given the overall size of the book. Moreover, the reader only gets to data structures after 1000 pages of text. This apparent underemphasis on data structures raised a variety questions in my mind about the software engineering philosophy of the text. Thirdly, the book explicitly avoids dealing with ActiveX and COM. Attributes, a new feature in Visual C++ are mentioned in passing, and ATL is not mentioned at all.
Overalll, I am less postive about this book than their earlier proramming in C++ text. It seemed to me from reading the book, that there is a formula at play and material is shoehorned to fit accordingly. I fully acknowledge that much of the material is excellent and competently explained, but as an overall learning text on VC++.Net I think improvements are required.

Useful but not quite enough

I found that this book gave me good general information on VC++.NET but not quite enough. When going through the book I tried to write the sample pieces of code as I was going and there was just not quite enough information on each of the samples for me to write it with out having to go and copy the code from the examples. Also it wasn't clear what the project settings should be set to. Eventually I figured them out but it just wasn't quite enough.

I have been a C++/MFC Developer for 6 years and am finding the transition to .NET quite difficult. This book has not been the help that I was hoping for. I know the programming concepts but actually getting the proper syntax to work for simple things is taking quite a bit longer and the book does not have what I need.

Alright could of been better

Much like others have said he spent far too much time on areas in which are less important atleast in my eyes

While this book gives you a basic understanding in VC++ I found that it spent far too much time in the commandline

programing (MC++) when you could teach from the start learning doing it via text boxes/lables which would condence alot of the

reading making it less balky. Over 1/3rd of the book was on MC++ commandline programming! This book was also intended for

college courses and answers to the questions are not answered for those of us learning on our own which is a real downside

and made me skip ALOT of the questions at the end of chapters.

This book doesn't get into real detail about data structors which is an important aspect of programming in general which made me disapointed..

As Jody Blau said:

is So true.

All in all I feel this book is alright but I'm sure theres better out there.
